JT8D is actually a model of jet engine, which was used on the 727, early 737s, DC-9 and MD-80 airliners, among others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_&_Whitney_JT8D
Perhaps "Mr. JT8D" is an aircraft mechanic, pilot, or otherwise works with jets in some capacity.
